Your weekly round-up of the best new releases and emerging artists from the past week. Featuring a Fifty Shades soundtrack, a break-up anthem and the return of Katy Perry.
Anne Marie: Ciao Adios
Anne Marie is back with another anti-ex anthem. Ciao Adios sees the songstress say goodbye to a former lover after seeing him with another woman. The chilled, catchy production accompanied with scorning lyrics will have you saying “Ciao, adios, I’m done” to anyone and everyone.
Marika Hackman: Boyfriend
“Boyfriend is payback for all those times I’ve been interrupted mid-snog by some seedy wanker asking to join in” Hackman states about her return from her 2015 debut We Slept At Last. The Big Moon and Alt J’s Charlie Andrew provide production and backing, complete with our favourite artwork of the week.
The Staves: Tired As Fuck
Has there ever been a more relatable title to a song? The Staves display their exquisite harmonies like never before on their new single Tired As Fuck. This song also sees the trio make a shift from their usual folk sound to a rockier vibe.
Tove Lo: Lies In The Dark
Tove Lo brings out her dark sultry side for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack in the form of Lies In The Dark. In true Tove Lo fashion, it’s got an infectious hook and an eerie electro-pop backing track, suitable for any Valentine’s Day antics.
Katy Perry: Chained to the Rhythm
Chained to the Rhythm is built on a bed of warm, slightly-tweaked ’80s keys and has its energies tuned to the dance floor. Throughout the song, Perry makes numerous references to the “rose tinted glasses” of life on social media, proclaiming that we’re all “chained to the rhythm” of making our lives seem perfect. After the third listen, there’s no way you’ll be able to get this out of your head.
Sigrid: Don’t Kill My Vibe
Coming at us with one of the stand out releases of the year so far, Sigrid’s Don’t Kill My Vibe displays a unique raspy voice and glistening harmonies over a refined pop production. From this release alone, it’s looking like a promising year for Sigrid.
Always one to out-do himself, Rationale is seemingly on a mission to seduce with this new cut, taken from the brand new Vessels EP. Check our recent conversation with the man himself right here.
