We Met The Brands Tackling Homelessness, One Coffee Cup At A Time

Oatly, you know Oatly – firm possessor of one of the coveted leading spots of the plant-based movement. As the next step of their rapid expansion beyond the vegan market, they’ve introduced a barista edition that aims to take your morning coffee to the next level. To sample this venture, they found the perfect roasting partner in South London’s Old Spike. We joined them at Spike + Earl earlier this week for a cupping with real social impact.

The afternoon had us explore the coordinates of personal taste, in a crash course of the subjectivity and science behind our preferences. As we explored different flavours, breaking them into taste and aroma, the expert team behind the brand and the beans walked us through what makes their perfect Peckham roast.

In understanding Oatly’s decision as having the South London brand as their roast of choice, however, Old Spike’s incredible commitment to the homeless community in London deserves a special mention. By providing training, jobs and support with housing, their coffee mission is elevated to one of larger social impact and your daily caffeine fix can pack both flavor and the ability to change a life, one cup at a time.

Oatly’s self-professed purpose ‘as a company is to make it easy for people to turn what they drink into moments of healthy joy without recklessly taxing the planet’s resources in the process.’ Well, as a result of this collaboration, devotion to sustainability respects both planet and our locals.

Try the Oatly + Old Spike recipe for yourself and support their mission next month, at the London Coffee Festival. We guarantee you’re in for a fine cup of coffee.
