Saint Laurent has unveiled its AW17 menswear campaign, and it’s everything we have come to expect from the French luxury label: moody, rebellious and slightly homoerotic. This is the first menswear collection from designer Anthony Vaccarello, who took the helm following the much-argued departure of Hedi Slimane. Given Slimane’s success in building the brand and amping the profits, Vaccarello has big shoes to fill – and from this campaign, those shoes are patent red Derbys.
We can see elements of tailoring, black vinyl jeans and leather jackets in the offering, which will be shown during Paris Fashion Week in February. Collier Schorr created the collage images, reminiscent of school jotters and old scrapbooks, playing on the brand’s youthful appeal, while Nathalie Canguilhem directed the short fashion film in which a group of guys try to stake their claim as protagonist. It’s a sultry campaign that promises great things but for now, just leaves us wanting more.
