Record Store Day 2017: Our Pick of the Best Releases

The full list of releases for Record Store Day 2017 popped up online last night (21/03/17) packed with strange, wonderful and frankly odd exclusives.

Now that we’ve had the time to process the ever-extensive list, we’ve picked our favourites and highlights of the bunch that we’d happily invest in a tent in order to get hold of. St Vincent (pictured) took on this year’s role of Record Store Day Ambassador for the event’s 10 year anniversary, following in the footsteps of Dave Grohl and Metallica.

Record Store Day 2017 takes place Saturday 22 April with the full list of stockists and releases available here.

London Grammar: Rooting For You

Arguably one of the prettiest to appear on the list, London Grammar‘s returning slow-burner Rooting For You gets the Record Store Day treatment as a marble 7″ release. More than likely to get snapped up almost instantly…

Laura Marling: Live From York Minster

Laura Marling’s stellar live album, recording from her October 2011 performance at the Gothic cathedral of York, gets a re-release as a double LP for Record Store Day 2017. A reminder

Prince: Batdance

One of the many Prince single releases to crop up on the list, the late great hero’s Batdance from the 1989 batman movie soundtrack is probably the most collectable and interesting of the bunch. The 140g 12″ black vinyl joins Sign ‘O’ The Times, I Wish U Heaven, Partyman and others all available on the same format.

LANY: ILYSB

HISKIND regulars LANY are set to release their breakout single ILYSB as a 7″, backed with the stripped version taken from 2015 Make Out EP. An essential for anyone wishing to build on their (incredibly aesthetically-pleasing) vinyl collection from the Los Angeles trio. We took the trio to the Tate Modern last week, read about it here.

Fickle Friends: Brooklyn / Cry Baby

Brighton indie-pop gang Fickle Friends release two of the highlights from their back catalogue as a double A side 12″. Another of the releases not likely to be stick around on the shelves for too long…

Little Mix: Glory Days

You too can be the proud owner of Touch on vinyl if you chose to queue for enough time to fend off the Mixers no doubt as eager to make the same purchase. The pop heroes release their latest record Glory Days as a double album on 12″ hot pink vinyl with exclusive poster. What’s not to love?

Madonna: Dance Mix

Previously only released in South America, Madonna’s Dance Mix EP gets the Record Store Day make over as a rerelease of the 1985 original.

Aqua: Barbie Girl

Now this is the sort of release we’d be more than willing to camp out in the queue. Barbie Girl gets a release as a hot pink 7″ whilst the full album Aquarium will also be available as an exclusive LP.

Toto: Africa

Yes, really. The meme-tarnished Africa by American rock group Toto is on the list for Record Store Day 2017 in order to celebrate the track’s 40th anniversary. Better still, Africa will be available as a die-cut Africa shaped picture disc with a map of the continent available on the A side (and a photo of Rosanne Arquette on the B side.)

Moana OST

Disney vinyls are always things of beauty. The Moana OST is no exception, both How Far I’ll Go by Auli’i Cravalho and You’re Welcome by Dwayne Johnson available as a double A side 10″ picture disc.
