Belgium based music extravaganza Pukkelpop have announced over 70 bands and musicians set to take to their stages this August as part of their first lineup announcement.
Now in its 32nd year, this year’s lineup includes the likes of the xx, London Grammar, Mumford & Sons, Elbow, George Ezra, Clean Bandit and Interpol. Following on from last year’s stellar line-up, which hosted Christine and the Queens, Tame Impala, alt-J and twenty one pilots on their European stages, this year’s instalment is set to follow track in aural quality. The Hasselt/Kiewit based alternative fringed festival, reigning in crows from 17-19th August this year – balances itself between current musical sensations, living legends and visionary alternative artists, offering a European treat for any music lover.
Following their announcement, we’ve picked out the artists we’re most excited to catch:
A favourite at HISKIND, Oh Wonder scream quintessential Britishness through each and every one of their bops. Probably one of the most flawless duo acts in music, these two have hinted a new music across social media for a while now. Come on guys, we’re waiting!
Following on from their impeccable I See You, all hype is on these three this year. Each track on the album possesses an undefinable quality on equal measure to the rest of the album with far more exploration of soundscapes in a highly sophisticated LP. Confessing itself as probably the best album you’ll get this year, I See You is a sanctuary of perfect sound.
As their glorious second coming draws nearer and nearer following two single releases already in 2017, headliners London Grammar are a dreamy soundscape of everything that makes this festival so desirable. For those yearning for their return, we’ve selected the perfect tracks from similar artists here.
Yet another HISKIND favourite, Perfume Genius is everything you want from music in 2017 with his sassy and queer outlooks on pop. Queen for instance, features unapologetic attitudes, lots of lipsticks, Elvis and drag queens. If you haven’t caught his beautiful rendition of Can’t Help Falling In Love, we suggest you do so immediately.
Swedish superstar Tove Lo is set to take to the Belgian stages following success with her recent Lady Wood. Ebba Tove Elsa ‘Tove Lo’ Nilsson’s comeback was no doubt one of the most exciting happenings in pop last year, with Cool Girl rightfully taking best single on yearly music roundups across a myriad of publications.
For those not too keen on the indie-pop vibe, Pukkelpop have provided a new level of intensity with pop-punk group Rise Against. Famed and favoured in their genre throughout the years, the band once released a track, titled Make It Stop in support of LGBT youth and rising suicide rates for young queer people in America.
Electronica hottie Flume has impressed time and time again, recently scooping up the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Skin. The Australian musician’s beats promise to bring one hell of a perfect festival vibe to the European stages. Missing him would be a huge loss.
