It has been six months since the Pulse Nightclub attack in Orlando that claimed 49 innocent lives as the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The attack reminded us that we live in a world that is by no means free of intolerance and hatred. However, the LGBT community has since regrouped and found many creative and touching ways to respond to the tradegy. Released earlier this month Love is Love is a 144-page comic book mourns the victims, supports the survivors and celebrates the LGBT+ community.
Curated by comic book writer Marc Andreyko and published by IDW with the help of DC comics, Love is Love sees 130 artists, writers and editors from all walks of life and industries (including rival publishers), donating their creative talent to create a collaborative anthology. A fitting response to an event that tried to rip apart the LGBT+ community, each page and contribution offers a different narrative of what to take away from the Pulse shootings and what it means to be queer in today’s world. Featuring the works of Harry Potter, Superman, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Archie, Batman, Wonder Woman and many more. Incorporating a wide range of themes from mourning to tenacious defiance and openness, Love is Love is certain to bring your emotions to the surface.
With 100% of the proceeds going to the charity Equality Florida and helping the victims and families, we at HISKIND personally can’t recommend this comic enough. This collection is not a light read by any means at all, it’s hard-hitting and powerful. If there’s one theme that will be universally felt by every reader, is that no matter how much hate is thrown at us, collective works of art like this remind us that we are never alone.
