Bestival have announced the first names for their 2018 edition, which will return to Lulworth
Estate in Dorset for the second time with a Circus theme. Bestival’s lineup is worthy of our attention as it is one of the first major festivals we’ve seen this year to have a more diverse range of male and female artists from different ethnic backgrounds.
The organisers have managed to secure two UK festival exclusives with London Grammar headlining on Saturday night and Jorja Smith performing a special set at the Big Top stage on the Thursday. As well as this, rebellious rapper M.I.A will close the festival on Sunday evening and Bestival have yet to reveal their surprise Friday night headliner.
Bestival are leading the way with this lineup, showing other festivals such as Wireless and Reading + Leeds how to produce killer, inclusive lineups to suit a wide range of festival goers. Whilst festivals such as Wireless and Y Not continue to predominantly cater for the male demographic, Bestival will attract a lot of praise for this year’s lineup, proving that women are just as capable of headlining as their male counterparts.
Lower down the lineup poster, things get even better, with Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Mura Masa and First Aid Kit all scheduled to perform. Exciting new music in the form of artists such as Nilüfer Yanya, Whenyoung and IAMDDB adds even more of a dynamic edge to this festival. The move to Dorset could have easily ruined Bestival’s reputation, but with a lineup this strong, they’re sure to continue attracting thousands of revellers year after year.
